What is electrolysis and how does it work?
Electrolysis is the science of permanent hair removal. In electrolysis each hair is removed individually. Every hair grows out of a natural pore-like opening in the skin called a hair follicle. A fine wire-like needle is inserted into the hair follicle along the direction of the hair. When that wire is in position it is resting along the direction of the hair and in particular the wire is resting next to the root of the hair. At that point, the Electrologist will step on the foot pedal which introduces heat down the wire and applies the heat to the root of the hair. It is the heat next to the root of the hair that discourages the hair growth.
When this is performed by a competent trained Electrologist, the regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently eliminated. Electolysis is permanent but it is not immediate. It takes a few treatments on the individual hair before it is permanently removed.
Is electrolysis really the only method of permanent hair removal?
Yes! Electrolysis is the only scientifically proven method of permanent hair removal. Temporary methods such as laser, shaving, tweezing, depilatories and waxing, require frequent time consuming maintenance. With temporary hair removal, skin irritations, ingrown hairs, discoloration, and scarring may result. All temporary methods seem to make the hair problem worse.
How long does the process of Electrolysis take?
The number of treatments required varies with each client. Those clients that adhere to the recommended treatment schedule usually accomplish their goal between 6 to 12 months. Some improvement should be observed from the very first treatment. All the things that you associate with permanently getting rid of the hairs are what you see with each and every treatment. The hairs come in finer, lighter and fewer until they are permanently removed. Once a hair is permanently removed either no hair of a very fine light hair remains. This leaves a very natural looking result on the skin. Once the hair is permanently removed that follicle can never produce a more noticeable hair.
Is Electrolysis painful?
Electrolysis has a tiny sensation. Sometimes a slight reddening of the skin occurs during or immediately after a treatment, but this will last only a short time. Each Elecrologist has her own technique. The better the Electrologist, the more comfortable you will be. Plus a better Electrologist will be faster and more accurate. This means that you will see less regrowths with the same number of treatments.
Do Electrologists follow sterile procedures?
They certainly should! At Advanced Electrolysis, we use new pre-sterilized disposable probes for every treatment and sterilize all instruments. We use a fresh pair of disposable gloves for each treatment.
Can unwanted hair be removed from anywhere on the face and body?
Most areas can be treated with electrolysis, including the face, abdomen, breasts, arms, legs, eyebrows, and back.
Does Electrolysis Leave any marks on your skin?
Properly done, electrolysis leaves no permanent marks on your skin. Immediately following treatment, there may be a slight redness and/or swelling which usually disappears within a few hours.
Is Electrolysis the best method?
After people experience electrolysis, the end result is the best of all other methods. The skin is clear and free from hair. There are no bumps or discolorations. If you are looking at the end result, electrolysis is the logical choice. There are no disadvantages, but you do have to find a skilled Electrologist to achieve these results.
